Mayorly words on the Henley Bridge

People are thrilled, etc. about the bridge opening back up to traffic, one lane each way.
Think I might open a hot dog stand for the event. Maybe hand out balloons for the Oct. 17 opening. Who will be the first to cross?

I was talking with a friend the other day who has been on the project for some time. He said that the bridge is ready now, just gotta pour some sidewalks and get TDOT to pave a few sections. Personally, I’m looking forward to having a third way to get to South Knoxville. Though the JWP is super speedy, IMHO.

Here’s what the mayors say via their respective statements:

BurchettKnox County Mayor Tim Burchett: “Finally, the Henley Street Bridge is reopening to traffic next Thursday, and this is great news for businesses and residents in South Knox County. Unfortunately, the final completion of the bridge is sometime away, so it’s important that we continue to support businesses south of the river.”

***

RogeroKnoxville Mayor Madeline Rogero: “TDOT’S announcement that the Henley Bridge will open one lane in each direction on Thursday, Oct. 17th, is great news for residents and business owners in South Knoxville. We look forward to the completion of the project in the near future. Meanwhile, let’s remember that South Knoxville continues to be open for business.”
