Bring out your drugs

Back when my grandmother died (thinking of you, Granny!) I took her meds up to the local hospital in Mooresville, tried to get them to someone who would dispose of them properly.

Because, you see, flushing them down the toilet is soooo uncool. Except for these opiates and others, which the FDA says are highly flushable.

The woman at the front desk looked at me as though I had asked to could borrow her time machine. Anyway, I eventually found someone who could help. They probably just flushed the drugs themselves.

But this is Knoxville! So you can take your unused, unwanted drugs over here this week (from a city release):

Anyone wishing to get rid of expired or unused medication can bring it for safe disposal to a collection event on Saturday, June 8th. The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Covenant Senior Health at Fort Sanders West (220 Fort Sanders West Blvd., Building 2).

Besides unwanted and outdated prescriptions and over-the-counter medicines, residents can also dispose of used mercury thermometers.

A free digital thermometer will be given in exchange for every mercury thermometer turned in while supplies last.
