Extra from the Visit Knoxville boardroom

Sat in on the first board of directors meeting for Visit Knoxville this morning. This is the group that is much like the old one, but isn’t really if you think of it as much the same staff in the same offices as KTSC.

In operation, much has changed, the board is smaller and meets more frequently so that it can have a little more oversight on things that are happening in the offices of Visit Knoxville.

Caught up with Kim Bumpas today via email with a few follow up questions after the morning meeting. What she had to say on …

… the new makeup and operation of the board:

The previous board met once a quarter and the VK board will meet monthly for the next 6 months minimum, and at that time, the frequency of meetings will be a discussion item.

… how the board and staff will work together:

?  Having an active, engaged board is a huge asset to the team.  If the staff has an open line of communication with the board – you can start to collaborate more on bringing business to town or just take in the new ideas, therefore creating excitement.  We are excited for the future.

… on bookings:

We are just now picking up speed on our definites.  We will not be announcing any “large groups” until the first of the year.  And our goals for November/December were set conservative considering that we were coming out of the storm …

… and it was a storm, indeed. By just plain observation, it appears that the group now has a bit tighter ship, or just that more people know what’s going on a little better.
