It’s the laborious stuff that helps get things done, but nothing real Earth shattering.
Talked with Bob Whetsel today and he gave a few updates on things. He’s the director of redevelopment for the city, and a lot of projects come across his desk.
Basically, all the projects that have been worked on lately are continuing to receive that work.
Fulton Bellows/University Commons is ongoing and could close any day. Things were a little iffy still on getting the project off when Council approved giving developers money to help close a funding gap needed on the $64 million Publix/Walmart job.
Suttree Landing Park, the park in South Knox, is moving ahead, and plans there may soon go to a consultant.
And the right of way acquisition along The Strip is ongoing. That project – the Cumberland Avenue road diet – is moving along as well. Doing something like ROW acquisition involves a lot of tedium. Property lines are many along The Strip, and figuring out who owns how much of what is hard work.
“We have all of the documentation in now,” Whetsel said. “conversations have begun with property owners.”
The city is working on these things. Dusting off the ol’ crystal ball, it appears the most likley NEXT BIG THING is probably going to be an announcement that developers have closed on the Publix/Walmart. Stay tuned …
