Good parking news. No kidding

This isn’t just “repost release day,” but this is a fiber of good news for you who park on Gay Street. Now you can shop for an extra hour. Your parking will change downtown, meaning that weekends will be different. Pay attention:

Signs are going up along South Gay Street in downtown Knoxville indicating new hours for public on-street parking spaces. Maximum parking time has been increased from one hour to two hours, between Summit Hill Drive and the Gay Street Bridge. The new hours are intended to ensure better turnover of parking spaces during high-demand times, providing more convenience for downtown visitors and businesses.

But visitors who might notice the signs this weekend do not need to panic: Enforcement of the new hours will not begin until Feb. 25th.

From Summit Hill Drive south to the Gay Street Bridge, the enforced hours will be as follows: Between 6 a.m. and midnight, seven days a week, parking will be limited to a maximum of two hours. Warnings will be issued for the first two weeks after Feb. 25th. Full enforcement will begin March 11th, with citations and towing.
